Everything you need to know before you begin

EMDR intensive therapy works differently from weekly sessions — and the way it is structured, scheduled, and priced reflects that difference. This page covers what you can expect, what it costs, and everything else that matters before you take the first step.

Why intensive therapy

The advantages of intensive therapy over weekly sessions

Weekly therapy is valuable — but for many people, it has limits. The stop-start rhythm of fifty minutes once a week can slow the very process it is designed to support. Intensive therapy was developed in direct response to that limitation. Here is what makes it different.

Accelerated progress

Personalized care

Flexible scheduling

Faster symptom relief

Meaningful therapeutic change in days rather than months. The concentrated format allows for deeper processing and faster breakthrough moments — building momentum that carries forward into daily life long after the program ends.

In weekly therapy, just as something begins to move, the session ends. In an intensive, threads of memory and emotion can be followed all the way through — without interruption — creating deeper integration and more complete resolution.

For people whose work or family commitments make weekly appointments difficult to sustain, the intensive format offers a practical alternative — a concentrated block of therapeutic work that fits around a demanding life rather than requiring it to be reorganized around therapy.

EMDR intensive outcomes are durable. Reprocessed memories do not re-traumatise, and symptom reductions are consistently maintained at follow-up. The shifts that occur in an intensive tend to integrate into daily life and continue to develop long after the programme ends.

If you are already working with a therapist, an EMDR intensive is not a replacement — it is an accelerant. Think of it as the surgical intervention that gives your existing therapeutic work somewhere further to go. Weekly therapy builds insight and supports recovery. An intensive addresses the root directly — in concentrated, sustained sessions. Many clients find that returning to their regular therapist after an intensive, the work shifts in ways that surprise them.

*Therapy intensives are not suitable for individuals experiencing severe mental health concerns, such as active suicidal ideation, psychosis, active mania or other conditions requiring immediate or ongoing care.

Insurance & payment

Insurance, reimbursement & payment options

Insurance coverage

EMDR intensive therapy is not covered by insurance. Intensive program are considered out-of-network services, and standard insurance plans — including most PPO plans — do not reimburse for intensive formats.

This is worth understanding before you begin: the intensive model exists outside the standard insurance framework precisely because it works differently from weekly therapy. The concentrated format, extended sessions, and customised structure are not recognised billing categories under most insurance plans.

If you have an HSA or FSA account, intensive therapy fees may be eligible for reimbursement — it is worth checking directly with your plan administrator.

"The cost of an intensive is an investment — in time, and in resolution. Many clients find that a focused program achieves more in days than years of weekly sessions, making it among the most effective uses of a therapeutic budget."

Payment is accepted by credit card, debit card, and bank transfer. A deposit is required to secure your program dates, with the balance due prior to the start of your intensive.

Health Savings Account and Flexible Spending Account funds may be applicable toward intensive therapy fees. Please confirm eligibility with your plan administrator before booking.

Due to the extended time commitment required for therapy intensives, a more stringent cancellation policy is in place.

Evolve Intensive Therapy, PLL cancellation policy is to charge $100 hr of your scheduled time that is missed or canceled with less than 2-week notice. You will be given the opportunity to schedule a new time based on availability and will be responsible for your remaining balance when services are rendered.  Late fees will not go towards your intensive fee.
